Safety against Vehicle Accidents
It is devastating to know that millions of people are involved in vehicle accidents each year. The trauma and emotional pain can be overwhelming for those involved. Although most accidents happen beyond the control of the driver most of these accidents could have been avoided if only drivers and individuals alike know the precautionary measures to make.
As a driver you should always be alert and ready for the unexpected. Weather conditions will always affect and increase the potential for a collision. For this reason, it is essential that drivers should have a regular training on how to drive under adverse types of conditions. Additionally, if possible avoid driving late at night as this is the most dangerous hour to drive with the highest number of drunk drivers on the road. When making a turn, make sure to always slow down and flash your turn signal. Always allow plenty of time before turning and keep looking for other cars coming and pedestrians. After you make the turn, make sure that your turn signal is off.
If you are feeling sleepy or intoxicated, make a stop and get some sleep. Sleepiness and fatigue will reduce your response time and increase the chance of an accident. You should be aware that if you have been driving for almost twenty hours, you must take a rest, walk around, eat a snack or drink a cup of coffee. As much as possible, avoid distraction while driving including eating, smoking or playing with the stereo. Avoid also using your cell phones while driving. As much as possible let the voice machine receive your calls and if you cannot avoid a call pull over before answering your call. There are also certain features that cell phones have that you can use while you are behind the wheels. Take advantage of them to reduce your risk of getting in an accident.
Additionally, always wear your seatbelts as they can reduce the chance of death and injury by fifty percent. Seatbelts protect the chest from the steering wheel and may help the driver regain control of the car. Airbags are also essential. When a collision occurs the bag will automatically inflate placing cushion between the steering wheel and the driver and the dashboard and the passenger.
Although car accident is the major cause of deaths, individuals can still protect themselves by following the mentioned ways of preventing an accident. Keep in mind that prevention is always better than cure.
